THORNTON GREYHOUND STADIUM

This site is not an official website for the track shown here and is neither approved or endorsed by the stadium. I am indebted to Richard English for the scans of badges on this page.

The tiny Scottish village of Thornton in Fife is situated between the larger towns of Kirkcaldy and Glenrothes, and stands on the River Ore and Lochty Burn. It has a greyhound track on Orr Mill Road situated at 3° 8' W 56° 9' N and first opened for racing on 29th May 1936. It is an independently run track holding sprints over 300 yards, standard races over 500 yards and distance races over 680 yards.  The track continues to be popular today and holds the Track Championships over 300 yards and 500 yards each July. Two other main events, both over 500 yards, are the Dave Bennett Memorial and Ricky Grant Memorial.

I am grateful to Robert North, from Dunfermline, who in August 2021 confirmed that Thornton Greyhound Stadium was still operational, and that the track website https://thorntondogs.wixsite.com/racing confirms that they are due to hold a meeting on Saturday August 7th 2021 with spectators returning after that date following Scottish Government lifting restrictions.

The link below shows action at the track:-
